Kaivalya Pad
Sootra 31 - Sootra 34TADA SARVAAVARANAMALAPETASYA DNYAANSYAANANTYAAJDNYYAM ALPAM
TADA=THEN SARVA=ALL; AVARANAM=VEILS; MAL=IMPURITIES; ALAPETASYA=OF REMOVAL; DNYANASYA=OF KNOWLEDGE; ANANTYAAT=IN INFINITY; DNYEYAM=TO BE KNOWN; ALPAM=LITTLE;
Then because of removal of the veil of impurities of mind, there is little left to be known of the unlimited knowledge.
With the stoppage of ego, the veil of impurities in the form of tendencies are removed from the mind and then all the knowledge is acquired.
32. ततः कृतार्थानां परिणामक्रमपरिसमाप्तिर्गुणानाम् ।
TATAH KRUTAARTHAANAM PARINAAMAKRAMAPARISAMAAPTIRGUNAANAAM
TATAH=BY THAT; KRUTAARTHAANAM=OF FULFILLMENT; PARINAAMA=EFFECT; KRAMA=SERIES; SUCCESSION; PARISAMAAPTI=THE END; GUNAANAM=OF QUALITIES;
By that fulfillment there is an end to the series of effects of three types of qualities.
With the effect of the three gunas (three qualities of nature), the dreamlike universe is manifested from the one source, the almighty into many. When there is lack of knowledge that everything in the universe is of the same powerful source, the false self or ego is born. The ego creates the impressions of past deeds in mind. These impressions are manifested into experiences of dreamlike life of suffering. These are the series of effects of the three gunas.
When there is real knowledge of self, all these series of effects of gunas come to an end.
33. क्षणप्रतियोगी परिणामापरान्तनिग्रार्ह्यः क्रमः ।
KSHANAPRATIYOGEE PARINAAMAAPARAANTANIGRAAHRYAH KRAMAH
KSHANA=MOMENT; PRATIYOGEE=OPPOSED; PARINAAMA=EFFECT; APARAANTA=AFTER; NIGRAHRYAH=CAN BE ARRESTED;
KRAMA=SERIES;
After the series (of effects of the three qualities) can be arrested, the moments (of time) are opposed.
Every moment one experiences different dreamlike life experiences due to the effects of impressions in mind. These moment to moment experiences together create a series. Which give us a sense of time.
Once there is stoppage of impressions of mind, there are no manifestations of moments of dreamlike experiences and hence the time also ceases to be.
34. पुरुषार्थशून्यानां गुणानां प्रतिप्रसवः कैवल्यं, स्वरूपप्रतिष्ठा वा चितिशक्तिरेति ।
PURUSHAARTHASHOONYAANAAM GUNAANAAM PRATIPRASAVAH KAIVALYAM, SVAROOPAPRATISHTHA VAA CHITISHAKTIRETI
PURUSHAARTHA=PRINCIPLE OBJECTS OF HUMAN LIFE; SHOONYAANAM=IN ABSENCE OF; GUNAANAM=OF QUALITIES; PRATIPRASAVAH=DEGENERATION; KAIVALYAM=LIBERATION; SVAROOPAPRATISHTHAA=REALIZING OWN FORM; VAA=OR; CHITISHAKTIHI=POWER OF CONSCIOUSNESS; ITI=END;
Kaivalya or Liberation is absence of the purpose for which one is born, degeneration of qualities one is born with, realizing own form or power of consciousness. That’s the conclusion.
Kaivalya means knowing the oneness among all. This is freedom from suffering due to the lack of knowledge due to qualities one is born with and feeling separate and vulnerable entity. Realizing the self as the One All Powerful Source of All.
