KANTHAKOOPE KSHUTPIPAASAANIVRUTTIHI
KANTHA=THROAT; KOOPE=WELL, PIT; KSHUT=HUNGAR; PIPAASAA=THIRST; NIVRUTTIHI=CESSATION;
From Sanyam on well of the throat, hunger and thirst can be stopped.
32. कूर्मनाड्यां स्थैर्यम् ।
KOORMANAADYAAM STHAIRYAM
KOORMANAADYAAM=IN THE PULSE; STHAIRYAM=STEADINESS;
From Sanyam on the pulse, there is steadiness of mind.
33. मूर्धज्योतिषि सिद्धदर्शनम् ।
MOORDHAJYOTISHI SIDDHADARSHANAM
MOORDHA=FOREHEAD; JYOTISHI= OF LIGHT; SIDDHA= ACCOMPLISHMENT; DARSHANAM=VISION;
From Sanyam on the light in the forehead, there is a vision of accomplishment.
34. प्रातिभाद् वा सर्वम् ।
PRAATIBHAAD VAA SARVAM
PRAATIBHAAD=ON INTUITION; VAA=OR; SARVAM=ALL;
Or by Sanyam on intuition, all can be gained.
35. हृदये चित्तसंवित् ।
HRIDAYE CHITTASAMVIT
HRIDAYE= ON HEART, CHITTA=CONSCIOUSNESS; SAMVIT=KNOWLEDGE;
From Sanyam on heart, knowledge of consciousness can be gained.
36. सत्त्वपुरुषयोरत्यन्तासंकीर्णयोः प्रत्ययाविशेषो भोगः परार्थत्वात् स्वार्थसंयमात् पुरुषज्ञानम् ।
SATTVAPURUSHAYORATYANTAASANKEERNAYOH PRATYAYAAVISHESHO BHOGAH PARAARTHATVAAT
SATTVA=MIND; PURUSHAYOH=OF SELF; ATYANTA=TOTALLY, EXTREMELY; ASANKEERNAYOH=DISTINCT, DIFFERENT, DISENTANGLED; PRATYAYA=PERCEPTIONS; AVISHESHO= INDISTINCT, SIMILAR; BHOGAH=SUFFERING, EXPERIENCE; PARAARTHATVAAT=FROM HAVING ANOTHER PURPOSE; SVAARTHA=SELF INTEREST; SANYAMAAT=FROM SANYAMA; PURUSHADNYAANAM=KNOWLEDGE OF THE SELF;
From Sanyam on purpose of self, comes realization of distinction between the mind and the self, whose experience of the seen world comes from the false idea of extreme non-separation which is actually meant for the other (for evolution of the individual self).
37. ततः प्रातिभश्रावणवेदनादर्शास्वादवार्ता जायन्ते ।
TATAH PRAATIBHASHRAVANAVEDANAADARSHAASVAADAVAARTA JAAYANTE
TATAH= THEN; PRAATIBHA= INTUITION; SHRAAVANA=AUDATORY, RELATING TO THE EAR; VEDANAA=SENSE OF TOUCH AND FEEL; DARSHA=SIGHT; ASVAADA=TASTE; VAARTA=SMELL; JAAYANTE=HAPPENS;
Then the senses of intuitive, hearing, touch, sight, taste and smell become very sharp.
38. ते समाधाव् उपसर्गा व्युत्थाने सिद्धयः ।
TE=THEY; SAMADHAU=IN SAMAADHI; UPASARGA=OBSTRUCTIONS, TROUBLES; VYUTTHAANE=RISING; SIDDHAYAH= POWERS;
On rising of those powers there is obstruction of deep meditative state of Samaadhi.
These powers are only useful to the mind which is after external objects of material world and they are obstructions for those who want to achieve the Samaadhi or deep meditative state (towards self-realization).
39. बन्धकारणशैथिल्यात् प्रचारसंवेदनाच्च चित्तस्य परशरीरावेशः ।
BANDHAKAARANASHAITHILYAAT PRACHAARASAMVEDANAACH CHA CHITTASYA PARASHAREERAAVESHAH
BANDHAKAARANASHAITHILYAAT=FROM EASING OF CAUSES OF BONDAGE; PRACHAARA= PROGRESS; SAMVEDANAT=FROM SENSETIONS, FEELINGS; CHA=AND; CHITTASYA= OF MIND; PARA=OTHERS; SHAREERA=BODY; AVESHAH=ENTER;
From easing of causes of bondage and from progress of sensations, there is an entry of mind into bodies of others.
Causes of bondage are seeing the self as the limited 'I'. When there is a knowledge that the same 'I' is present everywhere and in everyone, the bondage is eased and with Sanyam on the sensations about other's mind, the consciousness can enter other's bodies.
40. उदानजयाज्जलपङ्ककण्टकादिष्वसङ्ग उत्क्रान्तिश्च ।
UDAANA=; JAYAAT= FROM SUCCESSFUL SANYAM OVER; JAL=WATER; PANKA=MUD; KANTAKA=THORNS; ADISHU=OF ALL THESE; ASANGA=NO CONTACT; UTKRAANTISHCHA=END OF LIFE
From successful sanyam over the force of vital air Udaana there is no harm from contact with water, mud, thorns and end of life.
Udaana is the life force of vital air which does the function of throwing of unwanted foreign bodies which are harmful to health. By doing sanyam on this vital air, one will not be harmed by contact of water, mud, thorns and their danger to life.
Different vital airs or Praanas

Udaana is the life force of vital air which does the function of throwing of unwanted foreign bodies which are harmful to health. By doing sanyam on this vital air, one will not be harmed by contact of water, mud, thorns and their danger to life.
Different vital airs or Praanas
- From the heart to the nose: Praana - Through the veins in the blood impure air (CO2) from all parts of the body is brought to the lungs, from there it is absorbed from lungs and thrown out through the nose. This is done by the force or vital air Praana.
- From the mouth to the excretory organs: Apaana - Taking in food and drinks and sending them down for digestion and then for excretion is done by the force or vital air Apaana
- From below the heart to the navel is the place of Samaana - The food and drinks taken down by Apana is transformed into nutrients, heat and energy with the help of organs like stomach, liver, spleen, pancreas etc. is done by the force or vital air Samaana.
- From throat upwards to the nose, eyes, forehead, etc is the place of Udaana - Throwing of foreign bodies as cough, sneeze, puke, tears etc. through throat, nose, mouth, eyes etc is done by the force or vital air Udaana.
- All over the body is the place of Vyaana - Encompassing the whole body and ensuring that all organs are working perfectly doing their stipulated functions is done by the force or vital air Vyaana.
