21. तीव्रसंवेगानाम् आसन्नः ।
TEEVRASAMVEGAANAAM AASANNAH
TEEVRA = INTENSE; SAMVEGAANAAM = OF KEENNESS; AASANNAH = VERY NEAR (TO THE GOAL)
It is (the deep meditative state) very near for those of intense keenness.
MRUDUMADHYAADHIMATRATVAAT TATAH API VISHESHAH
MRUDU = MILD; MADHYA = MEDIUM; ADHIMATRATVAAT = OR INTENSE;
VISHESHAH = DIFFERENTIATE; TATAH = THEN; API = ALSO
Then also the intense keenness can be differentiated into mild, medium or beyond measure.
Does the deep meditation become most nearby only from this
(keenness)?
Then are there no other means also for benefit of it?23. ईश्वरप्रणिधानाद् वा ।
ISHVARAPRANIDHAANAAD VAA
ISHVARA = GOD; PRANIDHAANAAD = TOTAL SURRENDER; VAA = OR
Or from contemplation of God, the Supreme Being.
Longing for Grace of that Supreme God, Eeshvara, is
only with prayer from contemplation and supreme devotion.
Now apart from the main conscious self, who is this one named as Eeshvar?

24. क्लेशकर्मविपाकाशयैरपरामृष्टः पुरुषविशेष ईश्वरः ।
KLESHAKARMAVIPAAKAASHAYAIRAPARAMRUSHTAH PURUSHVISHESHA EESHVARAH
KLESHA = SUFFERING; KARMA=ACTIONS; VIPAAKA = FRUITS; ASHAYAIHI = CONTENTS OF MIND; APARAMRUSHTAH = UNTOUCHED; PURUSHAVISHESHA = SUPREME ENTITY
Supreme God or Eeshvar is the distinguished conscious self untouched by any suffering, karma, results of karma and pool of contents in mind.
25. तत्र निरतिशयं सर्वज्ञ्त्वबीजम् ।
TATRA NIRATISHAYAM SARVADNYATVABEEJAM
TATRA = THERE; NIRATISHAYAM = UNSURPASSED; SARVADNYATVA = ALL-KNOWING, OMNISCIENT; BEEJAM = SEED OF MANIFESTATION;
Therein ( In Eeshwara or Supreme God) is the Unsurpassed, omniscient seed.
26. स पूर्वेषाम् अपि गुरुः कालेनानवच्छेदात् ।
SA POORVESHAAM API GURUH KALENAANAVACHCHEDAAT
SA = SHE OR HE; POORVESHAAM = ANCIENT OF ALL; API = ALSO; GURUH = THE ONE WHO REMOVES THE IGNORANCE, GURU, TEACHER; KALENA = BY TIME; ANAVACHCHEDAT = INDESTRUCTIBLE
Ishvara the Supreme Being is the Guru who removes the darkness of ignorance with light of knowledge, Ancient among all, also Indestructible by time (Eternal).
27. तस्य वाचकः प्रणवः ।
TASYA VAACHAKAH PRANAVAH
TASYA = HIS OR HER; VAACHAKAH = SYMBOL; PRANAVAH = AUM MANTRA OR OMKAA
Symbol of Eeshvara is Pranava (Aum)
Aum is the symbol is the formless Eeshvara. It is said when the universe was manifested through Eeshvara's power of Maya, the first form was the sound of Aum, from which the universe evolved further into multiplicity of forms.
28. तज्जपस्तदर्थभावनम् ।
TAJJAPASTADARTHABHAVANAM
TAT = OF THAT; JAPAH = CHANTING REPEATEDLY; TADARTHA = ITS MEANING; BHAVANAM = FEELING WITH DEVOTION
Chanting the Aum mantra repeatedly with feeling of its meaning
Yogis, having understood the eternal meaning of the word Aum and its relation with Eeshvara as symbol and symbolization through testimonials, chant the word Aum
repeatedly.
Due to this chanting of Aum and feeling the meaning of
Aum, focus of mind is accomplished.
On attaining Yog through self-enquiry, there is a feeling
of presence of the Supreme Self, Eeshvara.
The Aum mantra should be chanted repeatedly with full knowledge of its meaning which is the source of self and feeling of full devotion towards that source, Eeshvara.29. ततः प्रत्यक्चेतनाधिगमोऽप्यन्तरायाभावश्च ।
TATAH PRATYAKCHETANAADHIGAMO API ANTARAYA ABHAVAH CHA
TATAH = THEN; PRATYAK = AGAINST, INWARDLY; CHETANA = CONSCIOUSNESS; ABHAAVAH = DISAPPEAR; CHA=AND; ANTARAYA = OBSTACLES; ADHIGAMAH = GOES THROUGH, ACHIEVE; API=ALSO, TOO;
Then one achieves inwardly consciousness and also absence of obstacles.
And what happens to this yogi?
Then one achieves inwardly consciousness and also absence of
obstacles.
As long as those who have the obstacles like disease etc.,
they are not in total surrender to the Supreme Being, realizing the form of
self as like the Supreme Being, the pure, joyful, only one, beyond disease therein
acquiring true knowledge that this self indeed is the intelligent Supreme Self.
Chanting of Aum mantra continuously with devotion makes one conscious of the all pervading Ishwara's essence within us.
Then what are the obstacles which are
distractions of mind? And again how many of them?
चित्तविक्षेपास्तेऽन्तरायाः ।
VYAADHI STYAAN SANSHAY PRAMADA ALASYA AVIRATI BHRANTIDARSHANA ALABDHABHOOMIKATVA ANAVASTHITATVANI CHITTAVIKSHEPA ASTE ANTARAYAH
VYAADHI = DISEASE; STYAAN = DULLNESS; SAMSHAY = DOUBT; PRAMADA = CARELESSNESS; ALASYA = LAZYNESS; AVIRATI = CRAVING; BHRANTIDARSHANA = DELUSION; ALABDHABHOOMIKATVA = ATTITUDE OF FAILURE; ANAVASTHITATVA = UNSTEADINESS
Disease, Dullness, Doubt, Negligence, Laziness, Craving (for worldly objects), Delusion, having an attitude of failure (loser mentality) and unsteadiness are the obstacles which are distractions of mind
Disease, dullness, doubt, negligence, laziness,
craving, delusion, loser mentality and unsteadiness are the obstacles which are
distractions of mind.
These Nine obstacles are distractions of mind.
All these together become mental attitudes.
In absence of all these there are no
pre-conceived mental attitudes.
Among them Disease is abnormality in the body
elements and fluids.
Dullness is non-activeness of mind.
Doubt is like touching both shores of a river,
being unsure about the right thing to do, it is like “maybe this is like this”,
and negligence is when there is absence of implements required for achieving
the goal of Trans state.
Laziness is inertia of body and mind from
heaviness.
Craving is yearning of mind for connection with
the sense objects;
Delusion is false knowledge.
Mentality of not having gained is a feeling of
not achieving a level towards trans state.
Unsteadiness is incapability of mind of being
in that state after obtaining a level towards trans state.
These nine are named as impurities, adversaries
and obstacles in achieving Yog or trans state.
